Understanding Trauma & Healing

Trusting the Healing Process

Healing is not something that happens all at once. It is a journey that unfolds step by step, often in ways we cannot see right away. Trusting the healing process means allowing yourself time, patience, and gentleness as you move forward. It also means noticing moments of joy, laughter, love, and connection that remind you that healing is possible.

Write Down the Good Things that Happen Each Day

One way to support this process is by honouring the good things that happen each day. Writing these moments down and keeping them allows you to build a collection of reminders that joy exists alongside hardship. Over time, when you return to these notes, you may see how your healing has been supported by small yet powerful experiences. It could be as simple as an encouraging word, a kind gesture, or time spent with loved ones.

Trusting the healing process also involves recognizing that kindness, both given and received, has the power to strengthen your spirit. Acts of kindness remind us that we are not alone. They help us to feel purpose and belonging, and they bring hope. Whether it is sharing food, offering a smile, or listening with care, each act of kindness adds to the circle of healing within ourselves and our communities.

These practices of honouring joyful moments and living with kindness are not about ignoring pain or struggle. Instead, they are about creating balance. They remind us that healing is not only about moving through hardship, but also about holding onto the beauty of life and nurturing what gives us strength. In this way, we begin to see healing as an ongoing process, woven into our daily lives.

As you move through these activities, remember that healing is not a straight path. There may be times of difficulty and times of light, and both are part of the journey. By trusting the process, noticing the gifts around you, and choosing kindness, you honour your resilience and strengthen your spirit. Healing takes time, but every step forward is a step toward wholeness.

Note Cards For Beautiful Moments Jar

It is important to recognize the things that bring us joy. Write down on a piece of paper when something good happens to you or your loved ones, then save them in a jar. You can review them as a family each month or year to reflect on the good things in life. We’ve also provided a PDF that you can print out and write your beautiful moments down on if you prefer.
